Local Attractions

Few places in the world can boast of such natural wonders and beauty as those offered by the land and sea of Kaikoura ….

The coastal settlement of Kaikoura is situated halfway between Christchurch (2.25hrs) and Picton (1.75hrs) on the rugged east coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It has a permanent population of around 3500 residents. Overlooked by majestic snow capped mountains, Kaikoura’s climate is fairly dry and mild, with average temperatures ranging between 10 – 25°C. Mt Lyford, our local ski field, is only 45 minutes drive and is open between Jun-Oct depending on snowfall.

Kaikoura is renowned for the presence of whales and other marine wildlife, which feed on the rich nutrients within our waters. Booking in advance is highly recommended for whale watching and dolphin swimming activities.

News

28/11/11 We've hit a lovely patch of weather in late November, with some hot wind blowing.  The crayfish are plentiful, and Scott has been diving as much as he can with the visibility around 5m + today  (thats good for Kaikoura!).  The water is still a chilly 14 C but you don't feel it in a wetsuit! The grass is growing almost as fast as the weeds in this lovely warm weather, our chickens are loving it and giving us plenty of eggs.
